BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU women's basketball team notched its second win of the Northeast Conference season Saturday afternoon, beating local rival St. Francis Brooklyn, 54-43. The Sharks were led by 14 points from junior
Aislinn Flynn and 12 points from junior
Brandy Thomas.
SHARK BITES
- The Terriers got off to a strong start on their home court, going up in the first quarter, 10-4.
- In the second quarter, SFBK widened the lead to 12 points before Flynn went to work. She had two layups and hit a three in the span of a minute, cutting the lead down to four points, 16-12. The Sharks kept the run going to the end of the period, holding St. Francis Brooklyn scoreless. A three from Shyla Sanford would cap the run with LIU up, 23-16 at the half.
- LIU would hold on to the lead in the second half, and eventually take the win, 54-43.
- Flynn finished the game 6-for-9 from the field, with 14 points, along with three rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- Thomas finished with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds, along with three assists.
- Kennedy Taylor had eight points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals in the win. Sanford also had eight points, along with a team-high five steals. Sophomore Camille Gray added six points, five rebounds and two steals.
- Up next, the Sharks face off against the Terriers at home, Thursday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
