POTSDAM, N.Y. – The LIU women's hockey team fell on the road to Clarkson Monday evening. The Sharks were upended by the Golden Knights, 5-1.
The first period was promising for LIU. The Sharks held Clarkson scoreless for over 15 minutes, before the home team got on the board with a goal, 1-0. But the Sharks answered soon after. Two minutes later, LIU would score its first game of the season on a power play. Freshman
Maggie Culp scored her first collegiate goal, assisted by sophomore
Abby Latorella and junior
Megan Roe, to tie it up, 1-1 as the first period came to a close.
In the second period, however, the Knights would score two quick goals in the first five minutes, widening the lead to 3-1. Another quick goal 90 seconds later made it 4-1 for the home team. Clarkson would add one more goal in the third period, to finish with a 5-1 win over LIU.
Kenzie Harmison had the loss in net for LIU, making 44 saves for the Sharks in 60 minutes of action.
Linn Thomsen had three blocks to lead the defense, while
Paula Bergström,
Delaney Bonifacio,
Alva Johnsson and
Renee Hoffmann all had multiple shots for the Sharks.
