ORLANDO, Fla. – The Long Island University softball team picked up a win on the last day of the UCF Invitational, beating Drexel, 1-0. Sophomore
Elena Valenzuela twirled a gem on the mound, picking up the complete game win.
Valenzuela pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just two hits while striking out three.
The lone run of the game came in the top of the second inning, when junior
Ciara Granado hit a solo home run to put the Sharks up. Granado also had a double in the top of the fourth, to lead LIU's offense.
Neither team would score again, as only two runners got in scoring position for the rest of the game, but no one advanced past second.
Up next for the Sharks is a 10-day trip over spring break to take part in the Spring Games. LIU opens the schedule taking on Creighton, Friday, March 6 at 11 a.m.
