Baseball Competes in Doubleheader with Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. – The Long Island University baseball team faced off against Nicholls State in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Colonels took game one by a score of 12-1, then defeated the Sharks 3-2 in game two.
 
Highlights
  • Anthony Warneke recorded four hits throughout the day. He scored a run in each contest.
  • Seth Surrett had three hits on the day
  • Davyn Adamscheck notched his first career RBI in game one.
  • Cooper Shearon had an RBI in game two.
  • Alec huertas pitched eight innings in game two, allowing three hits and striking out five batters. 
Game One Summary
LIU jumped out in front in the first inning. Warneke singled with one out then stole second. Adamscheck brought him home with a single up the middle. NSU broke the game open in the second, posting six runs. Two more in the third, along with four runs across the seventh and eighth innings cemented the final score.
 
Game Two Summary
The Colonels put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Huertas settled into a groove, letting up just one more hit for the remainder of the game. LIU got on the board in the fourth inning. Warneke doubled to right field. Andy Camilo reached on an error that ended up allowing Warneke to score.
 
The Sharks cut the deficit to one run in the fifth inning. Shearon led off the inning with a single. Surrett got a base hit, advancing Shearon to second. Myles Proctor bunted both runners over. Carlton Harper hit a fly ball deep enough to score Shearon from third. The best opportunity to even the score came in the seventh inning after Shearon singled and moved to second on a passed ball. LIU could not bring him home. Nicholls went on to win the game 3-2.
