BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University wrestling team opened a four-match home streak to close out the regular season on Friday, Jan. 31 when it hosted Columbia University in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association dual at the Pratt Recreation Center. The Sharks were unable to overcome the Lions, falling by a 45-3 margin.
In a dual that began at 157 pounds, the Lions jumped ahead early behind a second-period pin. The Blue and Gold got on the board in dramatic fashion at 165 pounds, as redshirt-sophomore
Ryan Ferro posted a reversal with two seconds remaining in the match to earn a 9-8 decision over Riley Jacops for LIU's lone win of the night. With the win, Ferro improves to 3-1 since joining the Sharks and extends his winning streak to three matches.
The Lions won the final eight weight classes to extend its lead to the final margin, improving to 3-1 in EIWA duals this season.
LIU will continue its closing stretch on Sunday, Feb. 16 when it hosts Harvard University and Brown University beginning at 11:00 a.m.
