Wrestling Travels to Historic Palestra for Dual with Penn on Sunday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University wrestling team is set to begin its final stretch of Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association play on Sunday, Jan. 19 when it takes on the University of Pennsylvania inside the historic Palestra at 6:00 p.m.

Sunday marks the first conference dual for the Sharks since Dec. 20 when LIU hosted Bucknell University. The Blue and Gold are looking to earn its first EIWA dual victory of the season after suffering setbacks to Drexel University and Bucknell in its first two duals.

Penn will enter Sunday's dual having just opened its EIWA stretch of competition. The Quakers will open at Army West Point on Friday evening before hosting Binghamton University prior to the dual with the Sharks on Sunday. Overall Penn is 1-3 in non-conference dual matches, earning a win against Duke University on Jan. 11.

Five Quakers find themselves ranked individually, including one grappler at 125, 133, 141, 149, and 157. Michael Colaiocco is the highest-ranked Quaker, earning a No. 9 composite ranking at 125.

LIU welcomed Ohio State University transfer Ryan Ferro to the lineup against The Citadel last weekend. The redshirt-sophomore posted 18 wins during his time with the Buckeyes and will look to pick up his first win in a Blue and Gold singlet. Junior Mark Malico earned his fourth dual win of the season during the match, opening the dual with a pin of Martin Duane at 197 for his first pin of the year.

Sunday's dual will be streamed live on ESPN+, a subscription-based streaming service available on all mobile and streaming devices.
