HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Saint Joseph's University Saturday night at the Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
Despite holding a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, the Sharks were unable to capitalize and overcome the Hawks. The loss moves LIU to 2-1 on the season, as it holds victories over Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Ryan Grande also had shots. Senior goalkeeper
Matias Pesallaccia finished the match with two saves.
The Sharks were forced to play catch up early, as the Hawks scored in the second minute. Pesallacia prevented the lead from growing further in the 20
th minute as he recorded his first save then in the 32
nd minute junior
Chris Capaldo came close to making it a 1-1 contest, but his shot sailed just high of the crossbar.
The match was evenly-contested in the second half as neither side was able to score. Grande's header in the 53
rd minute following a corner by sophomore
Javier Rehberger almost tied it up, but went high.
Dovland also came close to tying it up with a shot on goal of his own in the 73
rd minute, but he could not get it past Saint Joseph's goalkeeper.
As the teams played to a stalemate in the closing moments, the Hawks would hold on for the 1-0 victory.

The Sharks have a short time to regroup prior to turning their attention to La Salle University (3-1), who they face on Tuesday, September 10 at 7 p.m at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
