Women’s Soccer Falls Victim to 89th-Minute Game-Winner at SDSU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – A goal with 1:38 remaining spoiled an impressive performance by the Long Island University women's soccer team as the Sharks came up just short at San Diego State University by a 1-0 final on Sunday, Aug. 25 at the SDSU Sports Deck.

Aztec forward Chloe Frisch drove down the right wing and fired a shot out of the reach of sophomore goalkeeper Lydia Fraga Cordoba and just under the bar in the top left corner of the cage to stun the Sharks in the 90th minute. Fraga Cordoba was excellent between the pipes all afternoon, recording six saves on 14 shot attempts by SDSU.

Despite being held in check offensively, the LIU defensive unit did an excellent job slowing down the Aztecs, limiting just half of SDSU's shot attempts on target and successfully defending four corner kicks.

On the offensive end, senior Veronica Saager and freshman Maria Orozco registered LIU's two shot attempts. Saager found space in the box during the 53rd minute, heading a shot on cage that required a diving stop by Aztec goalkeeper Brooke Lisowski for the only shot on goal of the afternoon.

The Sharks continue their five-game road trip to begin the season on Sunday, Sept. 1 at Army with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m.
