BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University hosted Bucknell University in its 2019-20 home opener on Friday, Dec. 20 inside the Pratt Recreation Center, suffering a 39-7 setback in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association action.
The Sharks dip to 0-2 in EIWA competition, while the Bison improves to 1-0 in its conference-opener.
In a dual that began at 141, Bucknell took a 6-0 advantage when David Campbell earned a second-period pin before the Blue and Gold got on the board at 149. Freshman
Rhise Royster took down Jacob Hubbard by major decision, 11-1, after earning eight points during the third period.
The Bison took a commanding lead after a pinfall and tech fall at 157 and 165. Senior
Dan McClure had a takedown late in the third period overturned after video review at 184 that forced the bout into overtime. During the first extra period, McClure was penalized for stalling and the Bison earned a 7-6 victory to go up 23-4. Redshirt-freshman
Maguire Horl defeated Nate Feyrer at heavyweight by a 4-1 margin, earning a late takedown to clinch the win.
LIU was forced to take a forfeit at 125 and 133, helping Bucknell secure the 39-7 final margin.
The Sharks will return to action after the New Year, entering a stretch of non-conference action beginning with a dual against Bloomsburg University on Friday, Jan. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
