Field Hockey Looks to Carry Momentum into Sunday Afternoon Matchup at Lehigh

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Long Island University field hockey team is gearing up for another road trip to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Notes on the Sharks
The Sharks are looking to continue the momentum from last Sunday's 1-0 win over Lock Haven. Against the Bald Eagles, freshman forward Kaitlyn Olton scored the lone goal in the game and currently leads the team with five goals and 10 points this season. Reigning NEC defensive player of the week, junior goalkeeper Rachel Vellis, earned her second victory and first shut out of the season in the win. She also posted a season-high 16 saves last Friday in a 2-1 overtime loss against Saint Francis. Junior forward Sammy Bell scored her second goal of the season against the Red Flash last Friday, and also has three assists for six points. Senior midfielder Taylor Brodsky assisted Bell's goal last Friday, and leads the team with three assists.
 
Scouting the Mountain Hawks
The Lehigh University Mountain Hawks face American University on Saturday before taking on the Sharks on Sunday. Lehigh starts the weekend with a 5-3 overall record, and are looking to bounce back from two losses last weekend against Holy Cross and Bryant. Junior Drew Pecora scored a goal against Holy Cross and added an assist Bryant. Pecora leads the team and the Patriot League with eight goals and 19 points this season. Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Kahn has 50 saves and a 0.794 save percentage on the season.
 
Up Next
The Sharks return home to Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Friday October 11 to open up Northeast Conference play when they host the Wagner College Seahawks. The conference matchup is slated for 4:00 p.m., and prior to the game the Sharks will honor their three seniors for senior day.
