FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Long Island University women's soccer team fell to Sacred Heart, 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Sharks finished the game with 10 shots, seven of them on target.
Emily Poole and
Maria Orozco both finished with two shots on goal.
Sanna Vidstroem had two shots with one on goal, while
Julia Duffy and
Terese Markelund each took a shot on goal.
Kayla DeTreux started the game in net for the Sharks. She had seven saves and only one goal allowed in the first half of action.
Lydia Fraga Cordoba came in for relief in the second half and had one save on the day.
The majority of the first half was a battle of the defenses. The Pioneers would break open the scoreless game in the 40
th minute. Orozco had an opportunity to tie the game a minute later, but her shot was saved.
The Pioneers extended their lead early in the second half. Duffy took her shot on goal in the 58
th minute but it was saved by the Pioneers goalkeeper. LIU had a flurry of shots towards the end of the second half to try to tie the game. Orozco, Markelund, and Poole all had a shot on goal, but all three were saved by the goalkeeper.
The Sharks return home to the LIU Soccer Park next Friday, November 1 when they host Bryant in the final home game of the regular season. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
