BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Nick DeSalvo struck out a career-high 10 batters in four innings on Friday afternoon to help LIU baseball extend its winning streak to eight games, taking down Wagner, 6-1. The Sharks move to 23-11 on the season, including an 8-3 record in Northeast Conference action.
Jalen Wade earned his third win of the season, going five strong and only allowing one earned run on three hits. After giving up a leadoff single, Wade proceeded to retire the next eight batters he faced to help preserve the LIU lead.
When Wade's outing was done, the Sharks called on DeSalvo in relief. DeSalvo went on to hurl four innings in which he struck out 10 of the 16 batters he faced to earn a new career best. He also broke his previous season high of seven, accomplished against CCSU just six days ago.
DeSalvo also struck out the side on two occasions with the final four outs of the game coming on two strikeouts looking and two swinging. As team, the 10 strikeouts from DeSalvo and the four from Wade total the second-highest total in one game this season.
After setting a season high in homeruns yesterday,
Giovanni Ciaccio increased the early 2-0 lead to 4-0 on a two-run shot to deep right field, his third of 2022. Ciaccio finished the day with four RBIs to lead the team, and Christpher Wasson had a run driven in, as well. After going 1-4 today, Wasson has now hit safely in six of his last seven games.
