BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU baseball opened its Northeast Conference series against Wagner on Thursday by scoring a season-high 15 runs in a 15-5 win over the Seahawks. The Sharks homered five times, collected 18 hits, and drove in 14 runs which are all the highest marks in a game this season. This result now marks seventh win in a row, the longest winning streak by any team in the NEC.
The scoring was started early when
EJ Exposito hit his sixth bomb of the season to take an early 2-0 lead. Wagner would retake the lead in the fourth, but the Sharks were able to capture the lead back in the fifth inning when Hund scored on a passed ball. LIU maintained a lead the rest of the day, giving ace
Joshua Loeschorn enough insurance to earn his team-best seventh victory of the season.
Exposito,
Michael Edelman and
Christopher Wasson all hit two-run homers to pad the score.
Colin Adams and
Connor Price each had solo shots in the sixth and eighth, respectively, to help the offense pile up five hits in the eighth alone.
Loeschorn picked up another win on the mound, totaling five and two thirds, giving up four earned runs and striking out five. Out of the bullpen,
Nick Torres threw three and a third to earn his fifth save of the year. Torres only surrendered two hits and one walk, and he was able to strike out three batters.
With the win, the Sharks improve to 22-11 on the year, the most wins by any NEC team. Their conference record jumps to 7-3 after the victory. Up next, LIU will host Wagner in game two of the three game set on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
