Michael Zimbler completed his eighth year as a member of the wrestling staff in 2021-22. During the 2019-20 season, Zimbler transitioned into the role of Director of Wrestling Operations.
Zimbler has been a integral part to the coaching staff and has helped LIU produce four All-Americans, 16 regional place winners, seven NCAA qualifiers, and 25 Academic All-Honor recipients.
Prior to returning since the program was initially disbanded in 1988, Zimbler served as an assistant coach for seven years (2008-14) at Center Moriches High School. In that time, he mentored 43 county place-winners, 20 county champions and two state place-winners. Zimbler also coached the team to four-straight runner-up finishes at the Suffolk County Tournament.
He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Newfield High School, and followed that up with stints at four other high schools (Bellport, Southampton, Lake Grove and Newfield), before accepting the position as assistant varsity wrestling coach at Center Moriches.
Zimbler, a 1989 graduate of LIU Post, owns and operates MMKE Vending.
Zimbler resides in Nesconset, N.Y. with his wife, Kate, and daughters, Meghan and Emma.
