Walker joins the LIU coaching staff in 2019 after previously serving as an assistant coach at Yale for five seasons along with the Coast Guard Academy, Quinnipiac University and Fordham University.
A native of The Derry, Ireland, Walker has both playing and coaching experience abroad. He played at the semi-professional level for Institute F.C. before signing a professional contract with Derry City F.C. He then attended Northumbria University in England while playing with the Blythe Spartans prior to transferring to NCAA Division I institution Mercer University where he was the starting goalkeeper.
In his lone season for the Bears, Walker recorded a 1.30 goals against average and two shutouts along with 67 saves. He then returned to Europe, playing semi-professionally in Ireland, England and Norway.
He kicked off his coaching career at the University of Ulster in Ireland and Northumbria University while also coaching for the Irish Football Association, helping in their youth excellence, elite and youth international programs. Along with his experience in the college ranks, he has also coached at the youth level in the U.S. with the Connecticut Football Club.
Walker completed a Master’s Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Northumbria and is a qualified Sport Psychologist. He developed a sport psychology consultancy called “Train Your Mind” in which he works with athletes from all sports, with clientele coming from professional soccer teams such as Manchester United, Celtic, Newcastle United and Sunderland. Walker has also worked for UEFA on their licensing programs delivering sessions on the psychology of coaching.
