Shelly Picard joined the LIU women's hockey staff as an assistant coach during the summer of 2023

An Olympic silver medalist and four-time IIHF World Champion, Picard spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with Princeton.

Prior to entering coaching, Picard was a standout defenseman at Harvard. She was a three-time All-Ivy League selection and, in 2015, she was a key contributor to the Crimson's run to the national championship game.

In between her sophomore and junior year, she joined Team USA for its silver-medal run in the 2014 Olympics.

From 2016 through '19, Picard played for the NWHL's Metropolitan Riveters alongside LIU head coach Kelly Nash. Picard capped her professional career in 2019 with a gold medal at the IIHF World Championships.
