Marcus Smith

Marcus Smith is entering his first season as an assistant coach with LIU men's tennis.

Smith, a 2019 graduate of Hofstra University and a four-year starter on the men’s tennis team, completed two seasons as an assistant coach of the Hofstra tennis programs 2019-21. 
 
Smith, who was a team captain, concluded his collegiate career at with a 66-46 singles record. The 66 victories rank second all-time at Hofstra. The Queens, New York, native also holds the career and single season record for doubles team wins. Smith won 52 matches over three seasons, including a program-best 21 in 2018-19. 
 
He earned his second career All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team selection after posting a 22-15 record in 2018-19. He was 13-7 in dual matches, all at No. 1 singles. Smith was also an ITA All-American National Championship participant for the second consecutive season and was a main draw selection for the ITA Regional Championship. He previously earned second team all-conference as a freshman in 2015-16.
 
Smith has served as a United States Tennis Association US Open Player Operations Coordinator for the past two years, organizing player court and practice times and serving as a practice partner for a number of professional players including Dominic Thiem, Marin Cilic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Garbine Muguruza & Karolina Pliskova.

Smith, a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete and a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative for three years, holds a degree in management.
