Erie, Pa. – LIU completed a series sweep of Mercyhurst with a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Dale Fry looked strong on the mound, allowing just two runs by the Lakers' offense while striking out four through six innings. The pitcher has now allowed two or fewer runs while going six-plus innings in back-to-back starts (both wins) for LIU, having previously done so in his team's April 24 win over Delaware State.
Despite Fry's solid outing, the Sharks found themselves down 2-0 in the top of the fifth, when a
Ryan Rivera two-run blast helped his team tie the game. RBI singles from
Noah Sorensen and
Mike Polubinski in the seventh and ninth innings, respectively, helped LIU secure the lead for good.
Two-time NEC Co-Player of the Week
Cord Dobrinski also went 1-for-4 for the Sharks, hitting a double.
LIU will return to the field on Friday, May 8, hosting Stonehill at 3 p.m.
