BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Alexa Nuzzi &
Julia Trainor each scored four goals and the Long Island University women's lacrosse team (10-6, 7-2 NEC) defeated Mercyhurst University 3-12,3-6), 17-10, on Saturday afternoon at Shark Stadium in its regular season finale. Nuzzi added two assists, leading the way with a career high six-point performance as the Sharks honored their 12-member senior class in a pregame ceremony.
Trainor added four groundballs, five draw controls, and caused turnover, while attempting a game-high 18 shots.
Selia Lyons and
Lindsey Lucia each added two goals with an assist.
The Sharks opened the game with a flurry, leading 6-1 after the opening quarter, capped by Nuzzi's second goal of the game with 21 seconds remaining in the first.
After Mercyhurst tightened the score late in the third quarter, the Sharks rattled off six consecutive goals, sparked by Lucia's unassisted goal with 41 seconds remaining in the third and featuring back-to-back scores by Trainor, to put the game out of reach.

LIU outshot Mercyhurst 49-20, successfully cleared all 16 attempts, won draw controls 20-9, and successfully converted both free-position shots. Goaltender
Skyler Fig made four saves.
LIU has secured the No. 3 seed in the NEC Tournament and will face (2) Stonehill College on Thursday afternoon in Syracuse, New York. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
