BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Junior outfielder Lily Hinkle of the Long Island University softball team received NEC Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, after helping guide the Sharks to a sweep of FDU over the weekend.
Hinkle, a native of La Crescenta, California, impressed at the plate over the weekend, recording five hits in nine at-bats with two home runs, six RBI, two walks, and two stolen bases. The junior outfielder didn't strike out last weekend, posting a batting average of .556.
Her first home run of the weekend came in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Knights, as Hinkle delivered a solo shot to right field that put the Sharks ahead 5-0. Hinkle's second homer of the series came in Sunday's nightcap, as a three-run homer in the top of the second inning put LIU ahead 6-0 over FDU.
Hinkle's four RBI in the third game of the series against FDU tied her career high.
Joining Hinkle in receiving NEC honors on Tuesday was senior pitcher Sarah Wall, who was named an NEC Prime Performer. Wall started all three games last weekend, pitching 11 innings with 10 strikeouts, 7 hits surrendered, and two earned runs. The senior from Whitby, Ontario, Canada earned two wins last weekend.
LIU returns to action on Wednesday, April 1, at 3 p.m. to take on Iona in a non-conference matchup.
