Princess Anne, Md. – LIU defeated UMES 13-2 Friday, opening their series with a win and improving to 7-2 in conference play.
Ryan Rivera led the Sharks with a 3-for-5 performance, driving in two and scoring two runs.
Elijah Fairchild went 2-for-4 while driving in two, and
Mike Polubinski also drove in a pair (and scored two runs) as part of a 1-for-3 day with two walks.
Nicholas Finarelli kept UMES in check on the mound, striking out six in six and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs and four hits. With LIU holding steady in a 5-2 game,
Torin Kassebaum relieved Finarelli in the seventh inning. The Sharks' offense erupted for eight runs in the top of the eighth inning (making the score 13-2), giving way for Kassebaum to close things out in the bottom of the inning and earn the save.
LIU and UMES will play again on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
