Julia Trainor and
Lindsey Lucia each scored three goals, and
Selia Lyons totaled four points on a goal and three assists, as the Long Island University women's lacrosse team (5-4, 2-0 NEC) came from behind to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson University (5-5, 1-1 NEC), 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at Shark Stadium. Trainor added two assists, leading the Sharks with a five-point performance.
Erin Harkins and
Catherine Batterberry each added two goals in the win.
The Sharks trailed 3-0 at the start of the game, before rattling off three-straight scores bookended by unassisted goals by Lucia, tying the game 3-3 with 3:21 left in the first half.
LIU trailed again 5-3 and 6-4, before a six-goal outburst across the second and third quarters gave the Sharks a 10-6 edge with 3:09 to play in the third as LIU pulled away.
The Sharks outshot the Knights, 32-29, including a 20-11 edge in shots on goal. Redshirt senior goalie
Skyler Fig made six saves.
LIU is currently tied with fellow unbeatens Le Moyne College and Wagner College for the top spot in the NEC Standings. The Sharks return to action on Saturday at the University of New Haven at 1 p.m.
