BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Graduate student Jamal Fuller of the Long Island University men's basketball team was named the NEC Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
In addition, Fuller received NEC Prime Performer honors for the fourth time this season, while redshirt senior Malachi Davis was named a Prime Performer for the fifth time this winter.
Fuller helped guide the Sharks to a 2-0 start in NEC play with wins over Central Connecticut State University and Chicago State University last week, scoring 20-plus points in both games. The Toronto, Canada native now has five 20-plus point games this season.
Against the Blue Devils on Friday, Fuller scored 20 points while collecting nine rebounds and assisting on five baskets. Fuller shot 7-12 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc against CCSU, and finished second on the Sharks in scoring in their NEC opener, an 84-78 home win over CCSU.
In Sunday's road game against Chicago State, Fuller led all scorers with 21 points in LIU's 74-55 win over the Cougars. Fuller also led the Sharks in rebounds (seven), assists (five), blocked shots (two), and steals (two). Against the Cougars, Fuller finished the game shooting 8-14 from the field and 2-5 on three-pointers.
Through two conference games, Fuller leads the NEC in scoring with 20.5 points per game and is ranked fourth in rebounds per game (eight) and fifth in assists per game (five).
Davis led the Sharks with 23 points in their win over CCSU on Friday night, his third 20-plus point game of the season. The Scarborough, Canada native finished Friday's game with three rebounds and eight assists. Against Chicago State on Sunday, Davis scored seven points while recording two rebounds and four assists.
LIU returns to the Steinberg Wellness Center on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. to host Merychurst University.
