Drew Dyczkowski's power play goal broke a late tie and the Long Island University women's ice hockey team (11-13-1, 9-9-1 NEWHA) defeated Stonehill College (11-12-2, 11-6-2 NEWHA), 3-2, on Friday night at Bridgewater Ice Arena.
Grace Babington and
Crosby Wildfong added two points apiece as the Sharks earned their fourth victory in the last five games.
Trailing 1-0 in the second period, Babington scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season, assisted by
Emma Mörtl at 6:22 of the frame, tying the score 1-1.
Moments later at 7:57 of the second,
Addison Robillard scored off Wildfong's first assist of the night, giving LIU a 2-1 lead.
With the game tied 2-2 in the third, Stonehill's Peyton Wise was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for hitting from behind. A little more than 30 seconds into the power play, Dyczkowski tied Babington with her ninth goal of the season, assisted by Babington and Wildfong, securing LIU's 3-2 win.
Redshirt sophomore goaltender
Victoria Rutnik made 37 saves as the Sharks blocked 13 shots and held the Skyhawks 0-for-3 on the power play.
LIU returns to action on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the weekend pair at Stonehill. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
