LOWELL, Mass. - The Long Island University men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2025 season on Sunday, defeating the University of Massachusetts Lowell 1-0 on the road.
With both sides locked in a 0-0 draw at halftime, the Sharks broke the tie with a goal in the 81st minute of Sunday's match, as sophomore forward Tal Levy gave LIU the lead late in the contest. After scoring a late goal, the Sharks held on for the 1-0 road win.
Senior forward Jack Stainrod and junior forward Londell Wheeler tied for a team-high two shots. LIU recorded eight shots to UMass Lowell's 11 but outpaced the River Hawks in saves (3-1), led by strong play by redshirt freshman goalkeeper Andrew Marotta. Both teams took four corner kicks in the match.
The Sharks return to action on Sunday, Aug. 31, for their home opener against the University at Albany at 5 p.m. at the LIU Soccer Park.
