Easton, Mass. — LIU secured a win in game one of Friday's double-header, defeating Stonehill 8-3.
After driving in five runs in the opening game against Stonehill on Thursday,
Jacob Pipercic picked up right where he left off with three more RBI in Friday's win as part of a 2-fo-6 performance.
The Sharks found themselves down 1-0 in the top of the fifth, but an infield RBI single by the speedy Pipercic helped bring
Max Samson around and tie things up.
Ryan Rivera would hit a two-run single later in the inning to help LIU take a 3-1 lead.
From there, LIU never looked back as Pipercic continued to produce. The Sharks' lead-off hitter hit a two-run homer (his third in two games) in the sixth to make it 6-1 Sharks.
Stonehill chipped away at LIU's lead with runs in the sixth and eighth. When LIU came to bat in the ninth, the Sharks added to their lead to ensure the victory was secure.
Ryan Rivera came around to score early in the inning, and
Joseph Durso (double) and
Jarod Wade (single) would go on to have run-scoring hits to give the Sharks an eventual five-run advantage.
Justin DeCastro picked up his eighth win of the year, allowing just two runs in seven innings pitched.
Evan Panjwani pitched two to earn his fourth save and close the door on the Skyhawks.
LIU and Stonehill will play one more on Friday afternoon.
