Sharks Complete Series Sweep of Saint Francis

LIU claims ninth-straight win

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The cold and wet weather couldn't stop the Long Island University softball team, which picked up its ninth consecutive win and third consecutive series sweep on Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Francis University 9-2 to improve to 10-2 in Northeast Conference play this spring.

LIU got rolling early in the bottom of the first inning, getting the bases loaded before junior Alyssa Garcia, graduate student Dallas Andrews and sophomore Kaylee Clarkson all scored on wild pitches. Later in the inning, sophomore Jaedyn Lincoln scored on another bases-loaded walk to bring the score to 4-0.

The Sharks didn't stop there; LIU scratched another two runs across home plate on a two-RBI double off the bat of Clarkson to bring the score to 6-0 in favor of the Sharks. After Saint Francis added a run in both the third and fourth innings, LIU responded with an RBI double from Lincoln. The final run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Clarkson sent home Andrews after grounding into a fielder's choice. After the final out in the top of the seventh, LIU won the game 9-2.

Andrews and Clarkson tied for a team-high two hits, while the latter led the Sharks with three RBI in their win on Saturday. In the circle, junior Gigi Clavel pitched all seven innings, striking out five batters while surrendering five hits and two runs.

LIU travels to Le Moyne for a three-game series beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12.
