Norfolk, Va. — LIU scored seven runs in the first inning, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back en route to its 14-2 victory over Norfolk State on Friday.
The Sharks' early rally began when
Jack Power doubled home
Noah Sorensen.
Ryan Rivera then singled Power home, followed by a pair of RBI doubles later in the inning by
Tyler Benick and
Joseph Durso.
Mason Breton then had a productive out to help Durso cross home plate. LIU batted around, allowing
Jacob Pipercic to come up to bat once more in the first, driving in two runs with a triple to put the finishing touches on a powerful inning and jumping out a 7-1 lead.
From there, the Sharks would keep the pressure on and double their lead by scoring seven more between the second, third, and fourth innings, respectively.
On the day, Pipercic led the way with three RBI, Benick had a 2-for-4 outing with two runs driven in and two runs scored, and Power and Durso each drove in a pair as well.
Jarod Wade went 2-for-3, scoring two and driving in one.
Justin DeCastro kept Norfolk State at bay on the mound, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out five through six innings.
LIU and Norfolk State will conclude their three game series on Saturday, April 19, playing at 11 a.m.
