BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Long Island University men's basketball team (6-4, 0-0 NEC) returned to its home floor on Saturday night in a home matchup against La Salle University (4-7, 0-0 Atlantic 10), defeating the Explorers 70-60.
The Sharks locked down defensively on Saturday night, limiting La Salle to just 26 points through the first 20 minutes and holding an eight-point lead at halftime. LIU forced 18 Explorer turnovers in the win, 11 of which came in the first half.
La Salle cut the LIU lead to 54-53 with just over seven minutes remaining in the second half, but the Sharks outscored the Explorers 16-7 down the stretch of Saturday's matchup.
Senior Greg Gordon led all scorers with 25 points in the win, shooting 11-17 from the field and 3-4 from beyond the arc. Gordon and graduate student Jamal Fuller each finished with a team-high five rebounds, while redshirt senior Malachi Davis recorded seven assists. Sophomore Shadrak Lasu blocked four shots, and Gordon had four steals.
