Daniel Duris earned his first career shutout and the Long Island University men's ice hockey team (4-5-0) completed a weekend sweep of Robert Morris University (2-5-1, 2-0-0 AHA), defeating the Colonials 2-0 on Saturday night at Clearview Arena. The sophomore goaltender stopped all 31 shots faced as the Sharks picked up their third consecutive win.
LIU took a 1-0 lead when Sixten Jennersjö scored a power play goal at 10:12 of the second period, assisted by
Brett Rylance and
Dylan Kinch. The goal was Jennersjo's second of the weekend and third of the season.
The Sharks held the narrow led the rest of the way, until
Brennan Nelson scored his first goal of the season, an unassisted empty netter with 1:03 remaining in the game, sealing the shutout victory.
The Sharks went 1-for-3 on the power play and held Robert Morris 0-for-4 on power play chances.
LIU returns to action on Friday night at the University of Minnesota in the first game of a weekend pair. Puck drop from 3M Arena at Mariucci is scheduled for 8 p.m.
