BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Sophomore forward
Lotte Haagmans of the Long Island University field hockey team was named NEC Offensive Player of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday. She becomes just the second LIU field hockey player to ever receive one of the NEC's major awards and the first to earn offensive player of the year honors.
Haagmans was also named the NEC's Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the final week of the season, her first weekly award of the season, while garnering NEC Prime Performer recognition for the sixth time.
A native of Nuth, Netherlands Haagmans led the NEC with 22 goals this season, also leading the league in goals per game (1.29), points (54), and points per game (3.18). She currently ranks second nationally in goals, goals per game, and points, and ranks third in points per game.
Haagmans also ranked second in the NEC in assists (10) and assists per game (0.59).
This past weekend, Haagmans capped the season with a career-high four-goal performance in LIU's 8-0 win over New Haven. Her 22 goal campaign is the best regular season mark by an NEC student-athlete since 2009.
