BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — LIU men's soccer celebrated Senior Day with a win over Chicago State, shutting out their opponent 3-0 on Sunday.
Francisco Tolaba (assisted by
Diego Colon),
Sam Keogan (assisted by
Jack Stainrod), and Kai Phillip (assisted by Tolaba) all scored for the Sharks in the win.
Alex Bobocea had three saves in goal to help LIU keep the Cougars in check.
As part of Senior Day festivities, the following student-athletes were celebrated for their contributions:
Francesco Chiappo
A senior from Manzano Italy, Francesco is a Health Sciences major. He originally joined LIU from Ashland University, where he was Great Midwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. Since joining the Sharks, Francesco has become a two-year starter and key leader for the team, starting 35 out of 36 appearances, tallying two goals & three assists and was a member of the 2024 NCAA Tournament and NEC Championship team.
Kyumin Shin
A senior from Seoul, South Korea, Kyumin is a business administration & finance major. He has made 27 appearances for LIU, contributing two assists, including the game-winning assist in the 2023 NEC win vs. Sacred Heart. Kyumin was a member of the Sharks' 2023 & 2024 NCAA Tournament & NEC Championship teams.
Adam Lesniewski
A senior from Lindenhurst, New York, Adam is a business administration & finance major. He originally transferred from Molloy, where he had 5 assists through 19 appearances and was part of the squad's first ECC regular season championship. He's gone on to make four appearances with LIU, and has been a member of the 2023 & 2024 NCAA Tournament & NEC Championship teams.
Maximilian Sommer
A graduate student from Leipzig, Germany, Max is pursuing his Master's degree in sports management. He's made ten appearances this season for LIU, including 7 starts and scored a goal in LIU's home match vs. Marist earlier this season.
Jack Stainrod
A senior from Barnsley, England, Jack is business administration & finance major. He originally transferred from Dalton State, where he was an NAIA All-American & National Champion. Jack has started all fifteen matches for LIU this season, leading the NEC in assists and is currently slotted second in points.
Niklas Thanhofer
A senior from Obertrum Am See, Austria, Niklas is a business management & administration major. He originally transferred from U Indy, where we went to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments in 2022 & 2023. A two-year starter and 2025 captain for LIU, Niklas has started 29 of 30 appearances. In two seasons, he has tallied 11 goals and 4 assists. He is currently the NEC's top scorer with 7 goals and 15 points. He was a member of the Sharks' 2024 NCAA Tournament & NEC Championship teams.
Sam Keogan
A senior from Brisbane, Australia, Sam is a Psychology major. As LIU's team captain in 2025, he scored a goal in the Sharks' win vs. Quinnipiac earlier this season. He has started 54 of 62 games for LIU in four seasons, and was a member of the 2023 & 2024 NCAA Tournament & NEC Championship teams.
LIU will conclude its regular season on Sunday, Nov. 9, visiting Stonehill at 1 p.m.
