Miabella Musignac Receives 5th Defensive Player of the Week Honor

Garcia, Correia, van Gisteren, Klaer, and Musignac named Prime Performers

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Sophomore Miabella Musignac of the Long Island University women's volleyball team was named the NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, also receiving NEC Prime Performer honors. 

Joining Musignac with Prime Performer recognition was sophomore Bella Correia, sophomore Sara Garcia, junior Sara van Gisteren, and senior Karly Klaer.  

Musignac recorded 28 digs in two matches last week, including 18 against Stonehill College on Friday. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native finished the season with double-digit digs in 23 of 26 matches played this fall.  

This is the fifth Defensive Player of the Week honor for Musignac this fall, and her seventh Prime Performer honor. 

Correia received her second Prime Perforner award on Tuesday after totaling 17 kills on a .566 hitting percentage, two digs and one total block last week. The sophomore outside hitter recorded a career-high .615 hitting percentage against Stonehill on Friday. 

Garcia racked up a career-best nine total blocks against Stonehill on Friday night, finishing the week with 14 kills, a .706 hitting percentage, three digs and 10 total blocks. 

van Gisteren had 20 kills last week on a hitting percentage of .531. The Leuth, Netherlands native recorded a season-high .647 hitting percentage on Saturday against Stonehill, and finished the week with 15 digs, four total blocks, and 10 service aces.  

Klaer had a season-best six total blocks against Stonehill on Friday, finishing the week with 10 kills, a .563 hitting percentage, 64 assists, eight digs, and seven total blocks.
