Sara van Gisteren Receives NEC Player of the Week Honors

van Gisteren, Musignac, and Correia all take home Prime Performer awards

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Three members of the Long Island University women's volleyball team received weekly honors from the NEC on Tuesday, headlined by junior Sara van Gisteren being named the NEC/Molten Player of the Week. 

Sophomores Miabella Musignac and Bella Correia, along with van Gisteren, also earned Prime Performer honors. 

van Gisteren totaled 24 kills in LIU's two wins over CCSU last weekend, finishing the week with 13 digs, seven total blocks, and four service aces. The junior outside hitter has now finished 16 of LIU's 19 matches this season with double-digit kills. 

This is van Gisteren's second player of the week award this season, previously earning the same award on Oct. 7. The Leuth, Netherlands native has received five Prime Performer honors. 

Musignac finished the weekend with 25 total digs in LIU's back-to-back sweeps of CCSU, the 15th and 16th time this season the sophomore has finished a match with double-digit digs.  This is the fourth Prime Performer award for Musignac this fall.25 

Correia racked up 21 kills in LIU's two wins over CCSU, including 11 on a hitting percentage of .321 in Saturday's win over the Blue Devils. Correia also finished the weekend with 5 digs, 2 total blocks and 2 service aces. 

The Sharks return to the court against the University of New Haven at home on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m.
