Lotte Haagmans recorded her first hat trick of the season, and assisted another goal, as the Long Island University field hockey team downed Merrimack College, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Shark Stadium. Junior forward

Emma Capparelli made five saves to help secure the victory.
LIU took a 1-0 lead into the second period after Haagmans scored her first goal, assisted by Tess Termas, at the 11:37 mark of the game.
At 19:56,
Guusje Vermeulen scored via a Haagmans assist, giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead. LIU led 2-1 at halftime.
LIU's one-goal lead held until late in the fourth, which included a key save by Capparelli on a penalty stroke by Merrimack's Darla Mahoney with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Moments later, Haagmans scored her second goal of the game, giving the Sharks a 3-1 lead with 5:21 to play.
LIU closed the afternoon with a flurry, as Ranoldo scored an unassisted goal at 57:01 and Haagmans capped off her three-goal effort in the game's final minute, assisted by Ranoldo.
In total, LIU outshot Merrimack, 22-11, with 19 shots on goal.
