Three Sharks Receive Prime Performer Honors

Sara van Gisteren, Yasmeen Muhammad, and Karly Klaer all take home weekly awards

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Three members of the Long Island University women's volleyball team received Prime Performer honors from the NEC on Tuesday, as junior Sara van Gisteren, junior Yasmeen Muhammad, and senior Karly Klaer all were recognized.  

van Gisteren totaled 57 kills in three conference matches last week, including 22 on a hitting percentage of .395 against New Haven on Oct. 8. In addition, the junior outside hitter finished the week with a hitting percentage of .311, four assists, three service aces, 22 digs, and six total blocks. This is the fourth Prime Performer award for van Gisteren this fall. 

Muhammad finished last week with 18 kills on a hitting percentage of .580 with no attack errors, two assists, five digs, and 11 total blocks, including five against Mercyhurst on Oct. 13, the sixth time this season the junior has had at least five total blocks. This is the second Prime Performer honor for the junior middle blocker this season. 

Klaer finished last week with 15 kills, 120 assists, 28 digs and one total block in three conference matches. The sophomore setter also tied her season-high in service aces with four against Mercyhurst on Oct. 10. This is the fourth Prime Performer award Klaer has received this season. 

LIU travels to Central Connecticut State University on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m.
