EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Grace Babington and
Bri Eid have been named the NEWHA Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Month for December after leading the LIU women's hockey team to a 2-2-1 record in the Sharks' final five games of 2024.
Babington produced three goals and one assist, including two game-winning goals, helping secure back-to-back 4-3 wins over Saint Anselm on Dec. 4-5. Babington also maintained a plus-two rating and did not take a penalty in any of LIU's five games in December. The sophomore ranks second on the team with 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists).
Eid played in all five of LIU's games in December, recording one goal, one assist, and a plus-one on-ice rating. Eid's goal came in the Sharks' 4-3 win against Saint Anselm.
Eid tallied 14 shots on goal and added four blocked shots during the month of December. The senior ranks third on the team with nine points (3 goals, 6 assists).
"It is exciting to see Grace and Bri be recognized and rewarded for what they have been able to accomplish on the ice not just this past month, but this season," said head coach
Kelly Nash. "They have both contributed on the scoreboard for our team but also as leaders for us. We are looking forward to seeing what they will bring in 2025 for this second half stretch."
Abbie Thompson was the NEWHA Goaltender of the Month runner-up, and
Drew Dyczkowski was the NEWHA Rookie of the Month runner-up.
The LIU women's hockey team (10-6-3, 10-2-2) will play its first game of 2025 against Stonehill on Friday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m. at the Northwell Health Ice Center.
