BROOKLYN, N.Y. — After leading LIU to two more victories last week and reaching a 4-0 conference play start thus far,
Malachi Davis has been named NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Davis' week started off with a 27-point outburst to help the Sharks secure a 70-60 victory over Stonehill on Jan. 10. He shot 12 of 18 from the field and scored 13 straight points with four minutes remaining to help LIU put the finishing touches on a come-from-behind victory. A momentous slam dunk by Davis with 43 seconds left resulted in an and-one foul and ultimately served as the exclamation point on the win.
The redshirt junior went on to lead LIU with 12 points and 3 steals in the team's 54-52 win over Central Connecticut State on Jan. 12.
For the week, Davis averaged 19.5 points on 53% shooting to go with 2.5 steals. This is his second NEC Player of the Week honor of the season.
LIU's 4-0 start in conference play is its best since the 2011-12 season.
Davis and the Sharks will play next on Saturday, Jan. 18, hosting Saint Francis at 2 p.m.
