BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — LIU men's soccer freshman Stephane Njike has been named NEC Rookie of the Week for games played betwen August 19-25.

In addition, Njike, along with forward Jesper Mikkelsen and goalkeeper Eoin Gawronski, have been named NEC Prime Performers. 

Njike started off his collegiate career in style with a goal and an assist in the Sharks' opening win over Stony Brook. He displayed a deft touch on his highlight-reel goal and impressed the crowd with a series of flips for his celebration.

The France-native followed up his impressive debut with another striking effort in the team's win on the road against Albany. So far this season, Njike has been one of many bright spots on a Sharks team poised to make noise nationally.

Mikkelsen scored the lone goal in the team's win over Albany while Gawronski nearly produced two clean sheets to start the year. 

Joshua Saavedra was the last LIU men's soccer player to take home NEC Rookie of the Week in November of last season.

The Sharks get back on the pitch on the road this Sunday, September 1, against the UConn Huskies at 1:00 p.m.
