BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team scored a season-high 21 runs against Wagner on Alumni Day to take the rubber match of its three-game series against the Seahawks. The Sharks won 21-6.
Jake Mastillo hit his 14th home run of the season, smashing a two-run shot in the second inning to give LIU a 5-3 lead.
JC Navarro provided insurance for the Sharks with a two-run single in the fourth inning, and LIU eventually pulled away with a 10-2 lead. Navarro finished the game with three RBIs.
But the damage wasn't done. LIU scored 10 runs in the fifth inning, with
Jack Power and
Jacob Pipercic delivering the big blows.
Power hit a solo shot, and Pipercic blasted a three-run home run to give LIU a 15-6 lead. Power drove in three runs on the afternoon, and Pipercic finished the day with five RBIs.
Noah Sorensen joined the home run parade and drove in his fifth run of the game with a home run in the seventh. Sorensen finished the game with a team-high four hits.
PJ Moritz picked up the win for the Sharks. The senior pitched four innings of relief for LIU.
LIU improves to 20-3 at home and has won its seventh series against NEC opponents. The Sharks will play their home finale on Tuesday against Manhattan at 3 p.m.
