Mastillo Breaks Single-Season RBI Record, Yawn Strikes Out 10 in Win on Senior Day

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Garrett Yawn's remarkable outing on the mound and Jake Mastillo's record-breaking afternoon lifted LIU to its 20th win in NEC play after its 8-3 win against Wagner.

LIU, which honored 16 student-athletes ahead of the game, improved to 19-2 at home – and Garrett Yawn was a big reason why.

Yawn struck out 10 batters in eight innings and held the Seahawks hitless through the first five innings of the game.

Carlton Harper's two-run home run in the second inning gave LIU an early 2-0 lead.

Jake Mastillo then set the LIU single-season RBI record after driving in Seth Surrett in the third inning, recording his 59th RBI. Mastillo's milestone surpassed Joe Zeccardi, who drove in 58 runs during the 1999 season. Mastillo now has 107 RBIs in his two seasons at LIU.

Noah Sorensen, JC Navarro, and Harper each finished the game with a pair of RBIs.

Benjamin Fierenzi led LIU with a three-hit game, and Kevin Small pitched one inning of relief to seal the deal for LIU in its 25th win of the season.

Prior to the game, LIU honored Bentley Boekhout, Carlton Harper, Jake Mastillo, Kyle Matthews, PJ Moritz, JC Navarro, Riley Palmer, Evan Panjwani, Dominic Pieto, Connor Price, Kevin Small, Seth Surrett, Shane Tucker, Tatsuya Uemoto, Jarod Wade, and Garrett Yawn on Senior Day.
