BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team swept its three-game series against Maryland Eastern Shore after scoring 16 runs against the Hawks on Sunday.
The Sharks jumped on the board early after a Seth Surrett single and Benjamin Fierenzi double in the second inning, giving LIU an early 2-0 lead.
Jake Mastillo's two-run double in the sixth inning put the Sharks ahead 7-2.
Jack Power would then blast a two-run home run in the eighth inning to pad the Sharks' lead.
Bentley Boekhout padded LIU's lead with a two-run double in the ninth, putting the Sharks up 15-4. Boekhout also stole home earlier in the game. The graduate student finished the game with four RBIs.
Jared Hughes pitched four innings and struck out five batters.
Evan Panjwani got the win for the Sharks after pitching three strong innings of relief.
PJ Moritz and Justin DeCastro also pitched for LIU.
Fierenzi finished the game with three RBIs, and ten LIU batters finished with at least one hit.
LIU's next game is against Manhattan on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
