ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The LIU men's tennis team nearly left the Naval Academy with a sweep.
The Sharks topped Morgan State 5-2 on Friday night, then were edged by host Navy 4-3 on Saturday morning to have a four-match winning streak halted.
Against Morgan State,
Leon Harder (second singles),
Mathieu Vinet (third),
Victor Sjöström (fifth) and
Danila Ishchanka (sixth) all won.
Against the Midshipmen, LIU dropped the doubles point.
Later, after Ishchanka at sixth singles and Sjöström at fourth singles consecutively prevailed, the match was tied at 2 apiece.
Ales D'Anna then was edged in three sets at fifth singles, but Harder answered in three sets at second singles to again deadlock the match.
Navy then prevailed in the winner-take-all third singles when Nathan Nguyen edged Vinet, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-5.
The Sharks (4-2) now return to NEC competition when they host Sacred Heart next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sportime Syosset.
