EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Grace Babington and
Drew Dyczkowski were named the NEWHA Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after leading the LIU women's hockey team to two wins against Saint Michael's.
Babington scored two goals for LIU in the two-game sweep over Saint Michael's last week. In Friday's 5-0 win against the Purple Knights, the sophomore blocked a shot and netted the team's second goal with just 1:06 left in the first period. On Saturday, Babington scored only 4:21 into the game, with her goal proving to be the game-winner in a 1-0 victory.
Dyczkowski recorded her first collegiate points last week, contributing an assist in each of LIU's two wins over Saint Michael's. In Friday's game, the freshman assisted on the game-winning goal just 2:55 into play. On Saturday, Dyczkowski set up the lone goal of the game only 4:21 into the first period, helping the Sharks secure a 1-0 win.
LIU is 5-2-1 in conference play and hosts Quinnipiac Tuesday at 2p.m. at the Northwell Health Ice Center.
