THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — The first-ever meeting between LIU and Le Moyne as Northeast Conference foes went to the Sharks over the Dolphins.
Freshmen
Stephanie Schubert and
Casey Beauregard as well as
Taylor Curcio tallied second-half goals as the LIU women's soccer team defeated league newcomer Le Moyne, 3-0, on a rainy Sunday at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck.
Schubert's goal, which she produced with her right foot off a pass from Beauregard, came in the 57th minute and opened the scoring.
Beauregard then opened a two-goal lead with a goal in the 66th minute.
A midfielder from Killingly, Conn., Beauregard notched the first goal and assist of her collegiate career.
Curcio had a goal in the final seconds to cap the scoring.
Keely Thomas had her fourth shutout of the season.
LIU improved to 5-4-1 overall and 2-2 in NEC action.
The margin of victory and scoring output both marked LIU's largest since a 3-0 win against Saint Peter's in the season opener.
The Sharks next face Sacred Heart on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn.
