NEWARK, N.J. — LIU goalkeeper
Keely Thomas stopped a penalty kick against UMBC on Sunday.
She nearly did so again.
In the 18th minute on Thursday at Lubetkin Field, Thomas lunged to her right on NJIT forward Maria Nogueira's penalty kick and got a piece of the ball. However, the shot found its way into the back of the net and proved the game-winner in an eventual 3-0 victory for the Highlanders.
The penalty kick resulted from a called hand ball in the box.
After an otherwise even first half, NJIT opened a two-goal lead in the 50th minute.
The Sharks dipped to 2-2 on the season.
They return to action Sunday at 11 a.m. at Manhattan.
