BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — On the eve of the opening practice of the 2023 regular season, a pair of LIU football student-athletes received national acclaim.
Tight end
Owen Glascoe and defensive lineman
Eric O'Neill were named Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America third-team selections on Tuesday evening.
Both recently represented the Sharks at the NEC Media Day at MetLife Stadium.
Glascoe, a 6-foot-4, 258-pound redshirt senior tight end from Massapequa Park, previously had been named to the All-NEC Preseason Team. He appeared in all 11 games last season, tallying 62 receptions for 610 yards and five TDs receiving and eight carries for 34 yards and three TDs rushing.
O'Neill, a 6-3, 240-pound redshirt sophomore defensive end from Staten Island, recently had been named the Phil Steele NEC Preseason Defensive Player of Year. He also was selected to the All-NEC Preseason Team.
The Sharks begin regular-season practices on Wednesday afternoon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The season opens precisely one month later — at Ohio University on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.
