WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team's season came to a close in the NEC Tournament on Thursday night.
Despite 4 2/3 scoreless relief innings from left-hander
Jack VanDoran, the Sharks fell to Sacred Heart, 6-4, in an elimination game on Thursday night.
Fourth-seeded Sacred Heart also had topped fifth-seeded LIU in their opening game on Wednesday, which had sent the Sharks into the losers' bracket.
LIU, the 2022 NEC regular-season and postseason champions, completed this season 19-36 overall and 16-14 in conference action.
On Thursday, LIU jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on back-to-back RBI doubles from
Connor Price and
Jake Mastillo.
However, Sacred Heart evened the score in the second and opened a 6-2 lead in the fourth en route to the victory.
