STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The LIU baseball team will face Sacred Heart in the opening round of the NEC Championship.
The Sharks fell in both ends of a doubleheader to close the regular season on Friday at Wagner, 6-1 and 5-4.
LIU essentially was playing for batting as the home team in a four-versus-five-seed game between the Sharks and Sacred Heart in the opener of the NEC's double-elimination tournament.
With the pair of losses against Wagner, Sacred Heart is the No. 4 seed and LIU is the No. 5 seed.
In the nightcap,
Dominic Pieto held Wagner hitless into the fifth inning and LIU got a run-scoring double from
JC Navarro and RBI single from
Carlton Harper in the first inning and opened a 4-0 lead on
Christopher Hund's RBI double in the fourth. However, Wagner overcame the deficit.
