NORFOLK, Va. — The LIU baseball team used big hits from
Carlton Harper and
Max Samson to earn a doubleheader split with host Norfolk State on Thursday.
After dropping the opener 5-2, the Sharks rallied in Game 2, winning 6-4.
Trailing 2-0 in the nightcap, Harper launched a game-tying two-run homer in the fourth. An inning later, Samson continued his torrid hitting with a tiebreaking two-run single.
Samson and Harper each went 3-for-6 in Game 2.
Dominic Pieto earned the win after limiting Norfolk State to two runs on four hits while striking out 11 in seven innings.
The strikeout and innings totals marked career highs for Pieto, a redshirt sophomore.
Samson is hitting .455 (20-for-44) in his past dozen games.
The teams complete the three-game series on Friday at 1 p.m.
